60Hertz and Mongolia's National Dispatching Center Collaborate on "Energy Highway" MOU Signed for AI-Powered Virtual Power Plant Development

April 25, 2025

Seoul, April 25, 2025 – Energy IT social venture 60Hertz (CEO Jongkyu Kim, https://60hz.io) announced that it has signed a MOU with Mongolia’s National Dispatching Center LLC (NDC), the country’s electricity system operator, to jointly develop an AI-powered Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

The agreement outlines key areas of cooperation, including:

  • Development of AI-based power generation forecasting and control technologies

  • Establishment of customized renewable energy monitoring systems

  • Technical training and knowledge-sharing programs

Through this partnership, NDC aims to lay the groundwork for an efficient renewable energy integration and management system in Mongolia, contributing to enhanced national grid stability.

Prior to the MOU signing, NDC representatives visited 60Hertz headquarters in Korea to explore the company’s AI-driven forecasting technology and real-world deployment cases in industrial sites and factories. The visit provided a firsthand look at how AI is being applied to manage distributed energy resources such as solar and wind.

Baljinnyam Gomboragchaa, CEO of NDC, remarked during the ceremony, “I’m deeply impressed by the range of energy IT services developed by 60Hertz. Applying AI technologies to Mongolia’s grid management could deliver substantial benefits,” expressing strong interest in the collaboration.

Jongkyu Kim, CEO of 60Hertz, stated, “Although Asia’s Super Grid has been proposed to unlock Mongolia’s massive renewable energy potential, its hardware-heavy design—centered on transmission infrastructure—has seen slow progress. A software-centric approach, using AI energy management systems, carbon credits, and renewable energy certificates (RECs, REGO) for RE100 companies, can achieve results without the need for physical interconnection.” He added, “Korea’s long-discussed ‘Energy Highway’ could serve as a valuable reference model.”

The signing ceremony was also attended by key figures from Korea’s energy sector, including Seunghyun Kim, Director of Information Security at Korea East-West Power; Hyukjoon Yoon, Manager at Korea Power Exchange; and Saeik Lee, Team Lead of New Power Trading Business at Hyundai E&C. The event served as a platform to explore future cooperation between Mongolia’s power system and Korean energy companies.

60Hertz has emerged as a leading innovator in Korea’s renewable energy market. The company gained national recognition in 2021 after unveiling Korea’s first large-scale virtual power plant linking 130,000 distributed energy resources, earning a Presidential Award. It later released the “Sunlight & Wind Map,” an AI-visualized forecast of renewable generation from over 80,000 assets (18GW capacity), as a free public service.

60Hertz's self-developed Energy Management System (EMS) won a CES Innovation Award in 2023. In 2024, 60Hertz was named one of the Top 100 Climate Tech Companies in Asia-Pacific by the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). The company was also selected by KOICA-CTS to jointly develop energy IT services with PV Power, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s national energy company PVN, accelerating its global market expansion.
