Exploring Strategic Collaboration on Converged Virtual Power Plant Technologies in Jeju
60Hertz Inc., a leading climate tech company, announced today that it has signed a MOU with the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) to explore strategic collaboration on core technologies for converged Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) in the Jeju region.
Through this agreement, 60Hertz and KIER aim to advance research and development on next-generation VPP technologies. The scope of the collaboration encompasses a wide range of areas, including renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, as well as electric vehicle applications like Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).
Founded in 2021, 60Hertz gained national attention by launching the Virtual Power Plant of Korea, which connected over 130,000 solar, wind, and energy storage systems (ESS) into a unified forecasting platform. Its proprietary energy management system, Energy Scrum, earned a CES Innovation Award in 2023, solidifying the company's position as a technological leader in the field.
Jonggyu Kim, CEO of 60Hertz, stated,

60Hertz was recently named one of the Top 100 Climate Tech Startups by the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and has secured government-backed research projects to develop V2G technologies.
